ghosts of the lost colony opens this month!

Ghosts of The Lost Colony = history + comedy + a little scary.

It was a little over 430 years ago that England first tried to colonize the New World. That Lost Colony is lost to time now, the mystery of its disappearance baffling investigators to this day.

Do the 110 lost souls of The Lost Colony still walk through the trees and meadows of Roanoke Island, waiting for an opportunity to tell their story? The Ghosts of the Lost Colony attempts to answer that question, as astral plane investigators take groups on a tour of the site of the Lost Colony. Bill Coleman, Executive Director of The Lost Colony, explains what the investigators will bring to light.

“They will take our audience through Fort Raleigh Historic Site and the stage itself and they will uncover ghosts.” The idea came from a simple observation, according to Coleman.

It started when we saw these school buses here in the spring and we started thinking how can we tell the story of The Lost Colony,” he said. “It’s the mountain to the beach. They’re primarily middle school kids. Asheville and Henderson. Places like that,” he added.

The tour begins in the evening, and as the group walks along the paths of the departed, the spirits appear, ready to tell their story.

“There’s a little history, a little comedy, a little bit scary,” Coleman said. “The kids have a great time with it. We keep them engaged.”

Although the tour was originally designed for kids—mostly middle schoolers, families have been discovering the Ghost Tour.

“We have the part that we do for the public,” Coleman said. “We always try to do it the week before and the week after Easter. That audience continues to grow for us.”

The fifth year for the production, the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau has been instrumental in keeping the show going. The first student production of the Ghosts of the Lost Colony will be March 21. The public is invited to attend March 26 through April 7. This year we’ll probably have as many kids as we’ve ever had. They’ll start in mid march and come through late April.”
