After years of legal battles and delays, the replacement span for the Bonner Bridge is almost ready for traffic and may open before the end of the year! This piece by Joy Crist of the Island Free Press has the details.

Bonner Bridge replacement inching ever closer to completion

As work on the Jug Handle Bridge in northern Rodanthe continues to heat up, the new Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet is inching closer to a late 2018 completion and opening date.

“They are still evaluating if there will be any schedule changes due to the recent storms,” said Tim Haas, NCDOT Public Relations Officer. “We are still expecting to be complete by the end of the year.”

“We should have a clearer idea of the actual (opening) date in a week or so,” he added.
