second episode of wicked tuna: north vs south airs sunday

“Wicked Tuna: North vs. South,” premiered on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 10 p.m. ET/PT and continues on Aug. 24 and Aug 31. The new series will air internationally on National Geographic Channel in 170 countries and 45 languages beginning this fall.

Pitting the crews of the Gloucester, MA fleet against the best of the Wanchese fishermen created the perfect scenario for the third year of the National Geographic realty show, Wicked Tuna. The show tracks the efforts of crews trying to catch the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna, one of the most valuable and heavily regulated commercial fish in the world. The premier party for Wicked Tuna: North vs South was last Thursday at Pirates Cove in Manteo and as Cate Kozak writing for the Island Free Press tells it, the competition was real.

“In what was likely the first time a bitter feud over fisheries quota has been transformed into swaggering entertainment, a sneak preview Thursday night of the premier of “Wicked Tuna: North vs. South” was met with raucous whooping and cheers by Outer Bankers at a standing-room only gala at Pirate’s Cove Marina in Manteo.

The spinoff of the National Geographic Channel’s popular “Wicked Tuna” series, was shot last winter off Hatteras and Oregon Inlet, featuring local boats and Outer Banks fishermen battling “invading” Yankee watermen – who had a rough season up north — for the notoriously limited bluefin tuna quota off Outer Banks waters. “
