small bridge brings big response in manteo

Wahsington Creef Park is a small waterfront park in Manteo. When a small footbridge was removed to create a better boat launch site public reaction was quick and vocal. Russ Lay, writing in the Outer Banks Voice, does a good job of outlining the issues involved.

“A small bridge provoked a big response from the Manteo community at Thursday night’s Board of Commissioners meeting.

On March 19, the board voted to remove a footbridge along the Manteo waterfront that spanned a tiny inlet adjacent to the George Washington Creef Boathouse.

By the end of the following week, the bridge along the boardwalk was torn down, replaced by an excavated path marking the route of a new sidewalk that would traverse Creef Park.”
