UPDATE: hurricane matthew didn’t miss the obx

Last minute change in path brought Matthew to the OBX Hurricane Matthew was the least predictable hurricane we’ve tracked in a long time and just when the OBX thought we had a pass, we were hit with a storm full of power, fury and rain the likes of which many have never seen here. Thankfully, we haven’t heard of any local loss of life, but many homes and businesses have a load of cleanup to do. Visitors are being allowed back on the northern banks today but restrictions continue on Hatteras Island. OBXsurfinfo.com has put together...

obx photog biff jennings – just being himself

Biff Jennings from Shooters at the Beach has built a well-deserved reputation on the Outer Banks as an artist with a camera, and he’s a pretty cool dude. Elizabeth Baier took note and wrote about Jennings’ love of capturing people “just being themselves” in this photo-rich piece over on WUNC’s website. “As Biff Jennings likes to explain, he spent the first third of his life in and around Ashland, Kentucky; the second third on the Outer Banks of North Carolina; and he’ll let you know about the next third—in...

behind the lens with matt lusk

I don’t know about you, but I tend to watch the surf action safely from the beach. So, I am grateful for surf photogs like Matt Lusk for going out into the lineup and getting those great shots that make you feel like you paddled out! And who better to write this piece in the North Beach Sun than local surf pro Jesse Fernandez? We love it! “Surf photography allows surfers and non-surfers alike to enjoy the sport from afar. Recording action imagery is no small task, so I sat down with Outer Banks lens man Matt Lusk to find out just...
