On Sunday, May 31, from 3-8pm, the Outer Banks Event Site will officially play host to the first event of its season, the OBX Brewfest. Celebrating the craft beer industry and its ties to the arts, the festival benefits the Dare County Arts Council. Produced by Hype Promotions, event directors assure folks that this is a completely unique event from its aesthetics to its programming.

The event will boast a Soda Garden featuring more than twenty-five handcrafted sodas; a variety of food selections will be aplenty as local culinary creators, Coastal Provisions, Outer Banks Taco Bar, Mulligan’s and High Cotton BBQ serve up eclectic menus throughout the event; the Game Zone for Grown Folks will include life-size Jenga and Connect Four, human foosball, keg bowling and cornhole presented by Kitty Hawk Hammocks; and nationally touring musicians, TAUK, People’s Blues of Richmond and The Mark Schimick String Band will be taking the stage and bringing a diverse array of entertainment to patrons.

Producers announced the event’s BrewU schedule this morning, which will involve a myriad of craft brew education panels, demos and workshops including guest appearances by Triangle-based Geeks ‘n’ Taps who will turn your craft samples into ice cream right before your eyes; North Carolina hop farmers Three Horses Hops and Farm Boy Farms who will dive into a Plant to Pint session; our three local breweries Full Moon Café & Brewery, Outer Banks Brewing Station and Weeping Radish Farm Brewery who will speak on pairing their brews; Trio, who will present a segment on Vintage Beers; and much more.  The Brewfest team has partnered with HubCity Mobile to develop a mobile application in an eco-friendly effort to remove paper waste from the event. The app will feature schedules, interactive maps, brewery descriptions, pouring lists, opportunities to win prizes throughout the event, and much more. The app is available for free download in both the Android and Apple App Markets.

While the event’s lodging partner, Kees Vacations, has sold out of accommodations, additional rooms have been blocked under a partnership with the Sea Ranch Resort in Kill Devil Hills. Rooms may be booked directly through the festival’s website.

“Guests can expect to feel right at home in the grassroots environment chock full of handmade artistic design elements,” Event Director, Kristi Geske says. “We wanted to create a festival that combined style, creativity, and proper execution. We live on this quaint little island, and we have three craft breweries along some of the most awesomely artistic folks out there…the event just made sense! We’re so happy to be able to benefit the Dare County Arts Council, and we are excited for folks to enjoy their experience, not just this year, but as we grow for years to come.”
