nc legislature pushes to keep ferries free
With so many of the barrier islands of the Outer Banks linked by ferries, tolls are a hot button topic for many coastal North Carolina residents and visitors. Writing for the Outer Banks Voice, Rob Morris covers the most recent legislative attempt to prohibit tolls on the ferries.
“Ferry tolls would be eliminated and the state would allow advertising and naming rights to raise money for the statewide system under legislation sponsored by members of the northeastern North Carolina General Assembly delegation.
Bills filed in the state House and Senate call for eliminating tolls on three ferry routes that now have them and preventing them on others, including the free trip between Hatteras and Ocracoke.”
