Usually, the OBX feels like its long way from Washington DC, but not today. The first government shutdown since 1996 is having some annoying affects on visitors and locals, especially those that were counting on accessing National Park land.

Irene Nolan over at the Island Free Press has written a great piece that explains what you can expect to find closed, and shares a bit of how Hatteras and Ocracoke Island business owners are feeling about this whole thing.

“The irony of the fact that we have reached the first of October with a storm caused by Mother Nature and were being closed down by a manmade storm was not lost on the islands’ business people.”
