hatteras/ocracoke blackout to end in 3-5 days

Power to Hatteras and Ocracoke to be restored soon!

This just in from Sam Walker at the Outer Banks Voice:

Working around the clock to restore power to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands seems to be paying off as Cape Hatteras Electric Coop (CHEC) official have moved the timetable up to 3-5 days.

The evacuation order for visitors remains in place, and there is still no word on when vacationers will be allowed to return to the islands.

The impact of the islands’ blackout has been dramatic from businesses to individuals as Dee Langston writing for the Outer Banks Voice reports, with some folks taking it better than others.

“Disheartened. Disappointed. Angry, saddened and annoyed. In limbo, optimistic.

These are some of the words used by people who had hoped to vacation on Hatteras and Ocracoke this week and next.

With their plans wiped out, postponed, or still up in the air after a cut electrical transmission line led to the evacuation of the two islands  Friday morning, some vacationers are taking the glitch in stride, while others are angry enough to say they’ll never return.”
