With Lidl, the newest grocery chain about to purchase Mike Kelly’s Outer Banks Tavern for the land, four major chains will soon be vying for local dollars. The reason? “There’s a certain delicious irony surrounding the proposed sale of restaurateur Mike Kelly’s eponymously named restaurant to Lidl, a German-based grocery chain.

Since the Voice and other media announced the arrival of two more grocery chains in Dare County–Publix and Lidl, comments on social media have exploded. The majority of those comments express two sentiments; “We don’t need another grocery store” or “Why are we getting so many grocery stores?”

Though-provoking, perhaps controversial, but Russ Lay’s piece in the Outer Banks Voice is worth a read.
