More choices than ever, but which is the best?

Choosing a favorite Outer Banks restaurant is sort of like picking a favorite flavor of chocolate–all of them are good, although they may have different attributes. Nonetheless, Lorraine Eaton, the staff epicure at The Virginian-Pilot, gives it her all as she chooses her five favorites.

“Old-time Nags Headers swear this is true: Years ago, outside of summertime, a person could stand in the Beach Road, fire a shot in either direction and not hit a thing.

That was before the beach bustled.

Today, “shoulder seasons” bookend the summer, weeks when crowds aren’t as crushing, kids are still in school and wait staffs have yet to become weary. In short, it’s a perfect time to make the two-hour drive south for a spring getaway.
